Deforestation also indirectly affects the water cycle by disturbing the atmospheric circulation patterns. As evapotranspiration occurs in the water cycle from the forests, the water rises up to the atmosphere and the wind moves the rain. This finally leads to more death of trees and the ecosystem within the forest. Zemp et al.’s result on forest resilience in their simulation supports that the Amazon’s forest survival also decrease as there is an overlap in Zemp et al.’s statement when they state that in their simulations, forest resilience decreases overlap with d eforested areas. Despite the evidence showing the detrimental effects of deforestation, Zemp et al.’s research focus on the quantity of the forest and deforestation, therefore, the research has a gap such that other geographical influences such as fertilization, greenhouse gases, and water use are not accounted for. However, Zemp et al.’s had gained more understanding as they have used other research papers, like [Spracklen and Garcia-Carreras, 2015; Lejeune et al., 2015], to close the gap of unanswered gaps in the deforestation issue. Therefore, concentrated ownership can enable family members make their decision effectively. 6. 2 family management In principle, firm decision rights should be given to the person who maximizes the productivity of firm assets (Grossman and Hart, 1986; Jensen and Neckline, 1992). Founding family members have specialized abilities to preserve and share these intangibles because of life-long interactions and family governance mechanisms that are not available to non-family members. Franklin Roosevelt Essay Example For Students

Franklin Roosevelt Essay Franklin D. RooseveltFranklin D. Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York on January 30th, 1882, the son of James Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt. His parents and private tutors provided all of Franklinas formative education. Roosevelt attended Groton, a prestigious preparatory school in Massachusetts between the years 1896-1900; he received a BA degree in history from Harvard University in only three years (1900-1903). Franklin next studied law at New Yorkas Columbia University. When he passed the bar examination in 1907 he left the school without taking a degree. It wasnat until 1910 that he entered politics and was elected to the New York State Senate as a Democrat. aHe became the leader of a group of insurgent Democrats who prevented the Tammany candidate, William F. Sheehan, from being chosen for the U.S. Senate.a (Goldberg)Roosevelt allied himself with Woodrow Wilson in election of 1912. Because of his efforts Woodrow Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Navy, h e held that position from 1913 to 1920. In 1920 he ran as a vice presidential nominee with James M. Cox who lost overwhelmingly to Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge. The summer after while vacationing at Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Roosevelt contracted apoliomyelitis (infantile paralysis).a(Watts) He never regained the use of his legs. aHe established a foundation at Warm Springs, Georgia to help other polio victims, and inspired, as well as directed, the March of Dimes program that eventually funded an effective vaccine.a (Goldberg)In July 1932, Roosevelt was chosen by the Democratic Party as its presidential candidate to run against the Republican incumbent, Herbert C. Hoover. In November, Roosevelt was overwhelmingly elected President. He entered the White House at the worst of times, the economic structure of the country severely damaged. aFear and despair hung over the nation.a Rooseveltas inaugural speech had words of hope for the troubled countryaLet me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itselfaa aThis Nation asks for action, and action now. We must act and act quickly.a And act quickly he did in what b ecame known as the aHundred Days.a He and his administration rushed a series of anti-depression measures through congress; all of these changes to the American economy became called the aNew Deal.a Some of the major changes included Government agencies, most notably the Agricultural Administration and the Public Works Administration were setup to areorganize industry and agriculture under controls and to revive the economy by a vast expenditure of public funds.aIn 1936 Roosevelt was reelected in a landslide against his Republican opponent Alfred M. Landon, who won the electoral votes in only two states. In 1938 the international picture of the world was black, the Axis countries grew and all Roosevelt could do was speak out against aggression and greed. By 1940, after the fall of France and while Britain was being bombed by the Germans, Roosevelt increased the aid greatly to Britain. In the presidential election that year both Democratic and Republican parties supported giving Brita in aid but opposed the entry into the war. Rooseveltas acceptation into the 1940 election broke tradition, no other President had ever run for a third term and even Rooseveltas own Vice President criticized him. His third administration is basically the story of World War 2 and itas affect onthe United States of America. The first non-wartime draft came into effect by order of President Roosevelt in August 1941. On December 7th, 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The day after Franklin Roosevelt made one of the most memorable speeches of all time aYesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.aIn 1944, Roosevelt running for his fourth term had chose Harry S. Truman as his running mate and won over Thomas E. Dewey. Unfortunately he was unable to complete his term, on April 12th, 1945, a month before Germany surrendered to Allies; Franklin Delano Roosevelt died suddenly from a cerebral he morrhage. .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b , .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .postImageUrl , .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b , .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:hover , .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:visited , .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:active { border:0!important; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:active , .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf00a252c96958cafa7eb3fb26fb3f27b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Mental Health and Depression EssayFranklin Roosevelt was the greatest president to ever grace the White House because of his ability to take an idea and follow through with it. In entering the White House during the depression required a lot of courage, the country was in one of itas darkest eraas, the economy was nearly destroyed, he came with confidence that he could turn the country around. His inclusion of the aFireside Chatsa over the radio helped explain issues to the people. Even while the Supreme Court was declaring many of the New Deal measures invalid he kept his positive and aggressive personality. Before the war had started, Roosevelt had recognized diplomatically the USSR in 1933. The main focus of his foreign policy in the earlier years of his office was the cultivation of ahemisphere solidarity.a (Collier) His policy toward Latin America, named the aGood Neighbora policy, included the signing of trade agreements with many countries improving our relations with the countries to the south. These trade agreements also increased our economy, which at the time was still in a state of downfall. His involvement in World War II or lack thereof was widely criticized, many people thought he should of entered the war, and many thought he shouldnat have. I believe his decision not to enter the war until last possible second saved many Americanas lives. The starting up the Selective Service Act preemptively, even during a time of peace, was very intelligent because it guaranteed us to have a strong and well trained army incase there was a time that the American people didnat have a choice but to fight. I donat believe there could have been a better President for the time period. Work CitedLarsen, Rebecca. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Franklin Watts. 1991Blatt, Miriam. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Emma Deprestion Essays - Emma, Films, Madame Bovary,

Emma Deprestion Emma's life was greatly influenced by her reading. She lived in a world of fiction rather than in the real world. She wanted the things she read about to come alive in her own life. The idea of romantic nights, old castles, and moonlight meetings supplied a satisfaction in her that she couldn't find anywhere else. She needed constant excitement and change. If she never read these romantic novels, then she would not have been a dreamer and a sentimentalist. Her normal life of everyday living would have kept her content rather than intolerable. Emma discovered romantic novels as a young girl living in a convent. Unable to see the real world or the realities of everyday living, she was left alone with her dreams. She concentrated all of her attention on them and nothing else. These novels influenced her entire approach to life. When Emma first met Charles she believed he could make her happy. however, after they were married she soon began finding many faults about him. Charles had no desire to do or see anything. Emma wanted a man who would introduce her to new things and inspire her to live life to the fullest. Before she had married she thought she was in love. But the happiness that should have resulted from this love had not come; she must have deceived herself, she thought. Emma sought to learn what was really meant in life by the words happiness, passion, and intoxication--words that had seemed so beautiful in her books. (55). She was dissatisfied with her life and searched constanly for a way to change it. Emma constantly asked herself My God, why did I get married? (63). One of the highest points in Emma's life was when Charles and her were invited to the home of the Marquis d'Andervilliers. She was overjoyed at the idea of staying at the chateau. Everything she had dreamed and read about turned into a reality. Unlike Charles, Emma blended in with the higher class. She had the necessary qualities to get along with the aristocratic society. It was like her own little fairytale and she didn't want it to ever end. After having a taste of the higher lifestyle, it was very hard for Emma to return to her home and her very boring life. Since Emma was so unhappy she began dreaming of another life with a new husband. She wanted a man who would sweep her off her feet. What she was looking for, she seemed to find in Leon. He was the first person Emma ever met who shared the same interests in literature, music, and related subjects. A bond rapidly developed between the two. However, Leon soon realized that there was no future in his love for a married woman. As for Emma, she didn't think she was in love with him. Love, she believed , should arrive all at once with thunder and lightning--a whirlwind from the skies that affects life, turns it every which way, wrests resolutions away like leaves, and plunges the entire heart into an abyss. (111). It was not until he was gone when she realized her mistake in not letting Leon know of her love. When Emma met Rodolphe she was in a very vulnerable state. She disliked her husband and her present life, she wanted romance and passion. I think this is what led her to commit adultery. The idea of having an affair was very exciting to her. She remembered the heroines in the books she had read, and the lyrical legion of these adulterous women began to sing in her memory with sisterly voices enchanting her. She herself became a part of these fantasies. She was realizing the long dream of her adolescence, seeing herself as one of those amorous womenshe had so long envied. (163). Emma believed her dream was finally coming true. Within time Emma began wanting things to change. She cannot remain in one situation for a long period of time. She was no longer satisfied with having an affair, she insisted that Rodolphe and her flee to a far away place. However, her insistence scares him away. Later in the book Emma renews her affair

Aplastic Anemia Essay Essays

Aplastic Anemia Essay Essays Aplastic Anemia Essay Essay Aplastic Anemia Essay Essay Aplasitc anaemia is a really rare blood upset. Sometimes. it is connected with leukaemia ; it could be a consequence from chemotherapy given to leukemia patients. In aplastic anaemia. the bone marrow does non do the necessary blood cells needed in the blood ; nevertheless. leukaemia is when the blood cells are deformed and non working decently. Leukemia is a malignant neoplastic disease where as aplastic anaemia is non. Chemotherapy intervention for malignant neoplastic disease can take to the secondary status of aplastic anaemia that may do decelerating down of bring forthing blood cells. What are the anatomical and physiological symptoms and causes for aplastic anaemia? What is the diagnosing and what interventions are available for aplastic anaemia? One symptom is fatigue from being anaemic. Anemia is when the ruddy blood cells are low in the blood. The ruddy blood cells carry the O from your lungs to all parts of the organic structure ( Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. Inc. ) . This will do weariness when the organic structure does non acquire adequate O. There is a little more than merely low ruddy blood count in cells in aplastic anaemia. It is when the organic structure doesn’t produce all three different blood cells that the organic structure has: white blood cells. ruddy blood cells. and the thrombocytes termed pancytopenia ( Wikipedia ) . In aplastic anaemia. it is when the bone marrow stops bring forthing or slows down in bring forthing these new blood cells. The white 1s or leucocytes are to contend infections in the organic structure by assailing and killing bacteriums and viruses ( Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. Inc. ) . so with out them patients easy catch viruses. A low white blood cell count is called neutropenia ( Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. Inc. . The other is the thrombocytes ; they are for blood coagulums. A low thrombocyte count is called thrombopenia ( Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. Inc. ) . A low thrombocyte count leads to another symptom that would be uncontrolled hemorrhage because the organic structure does non hold the thrombocytes to halt the hemorrhage. You can besides do bruising and petechiae ( Wikipedia ) . Some of the other symptoms include shortness of breath. concern. lividness and. finally tachycardia and bosom failure ( Lippincott 508 ) . Bone tenderness should non be present ( Mc Phee 454 ) . The cause for aplastic anaemia develops when the bone marrow is damaged or in some instances is unknown. About 75 out of 100 instances of acquired aplastic anaemia are idiopathic ( Aplastic Anemia MDS International Foundation. Inc. ) . This means they have no known cause. Sometimes. the instance can be from radiation and chemotherapy intervention used for malignant neoplastic disease. This can destruct the healthy cells in the bone marrow taking to the secondary status. Some other causes for secondary status of aplastic anaemia are toxic chemicals and certain drugs. such as the chemical benzine that is found in gasolene. or with the usage of certain drugs. including Chloromycetin [ gt ; 0 ] . carbamazepine [ gt ; 1 ] . felbamate [ gt ; 2 ] . phenytoin [ gt ; 3 ] . quinine [ gt ; 4 ] . and Butazolidin [ gt ; 5 ] ( Wikipedia ) . Chloramphenicol intervention is followed by aplasia in less than 1 in 40. 000 intervention classs. and carbamazepine aplasia is even more rare ( Wikipedia ) . The medicine for arthritic arthritis is connected to 1s acquiring aplastic anaemia ; this would be called besides a secondary status when aplastic anaemia appears. Similarly Lupus. an autoimmune upset. can assail the healthy root cells. This would do the decelerating down or fillet of doing the blood cells the organic structure needs. The remainder may ensue from immunologic factors ( unconfirmed ) . terrible disease ( particularly hepatitis ) . viral infection ( particularly kids ) . or preleukemic and neoplastic infiltration of bone marrow ( Lippincott 397 ) . Therefore. to corroborate a diagnosing for aplastic anaemia they foremost take a blood sample to see if the blood count is low. If that shows up low in all the blood cells. the following measure is to take a bone marrow sample or biopsy. The bone marrow is normally taken from the big hip bone by a acerate leaf. The sample is looked at in a microscope to govern out leukaemia. which the blood cells would look unnatural and would be the ground the blood cells are non working decently. However. aplastic anaemia would demo really small ruddy and white blood cells in the blood watercourse. Some options of intervention given to patients are medicines. bone marrow graft. and blood transfusion ( MayoClinic ) . Just late. they have stem cell grafts. The medicines are immunosuppressive combine with cyclosporine. Possibly one of the causes is the immune system is assailing its ain good blood cells. and these drugs will decelerate down the procedure. This medicine intervention is normally given until the patient can acquire a root cell graft. The other medicine can be used with the immunosuppressant is the growing factor. The new genetically engineered growing factor drugs help with doing new white blood cells. That is truly of import. since the organic structure makes a blood cell that merely last for awhile. so the organic structure is ever bring forthing new blood cells. However. aplastic anaemia patients organic structure for some ground stops this procedure. The other medical specialties used are antibiotics either to assist forestall infections or already established infection. since the immune system is weak and would non be unable to contend of a common cold. Most likely the physician will administrate them before an infection appears. so that the patient will non acquire an infection. Those are the medicines used and if the status doesn’t better. the patient would expect for a bone marrow graft. The bone marrow graft might hold been the first pick. which the medicine is administered until the patient can happen a lucifer giver. The bone marrow graft is normally a successful intervention to bring around aplastic anaemia in people under 55 old ages old ( Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. Inc. ) . Bone marrow organ transplant from a related. matched giver can handle aplastic anaemia – without recurrence- in about four out of five instances ( MayoClinic ) . Up to half the people with matched. but unrelated. givers can anticipate to hold successful bone marrow grafts ( MayoClinic ) . There’s a opportunity that your organic structure may reject the graft. taking to dangerous complications ( MayoClinic ) . The bone marrow graft uses a matched blood type. When found. the giver will hold surgically removed some of his or her healthy bone marrow. It is so injected intravenously in the blood to the patient. The donated bone marrow will roll up to the patient’s bone marrow and aid with doing new blood cells ; it may take two to four hebdomads to demo the new blood cells are bring forthing. Before they even give the aplastic patient the donated marrow. they give them chemo to acquire rid of the morbid marrow. and will besides be administered drugs to assist forestall rejection of the bone marrow. Another safeguard a physician may restrict the figure of blood transfusions before the operation to avoid complications. Technology is progressing that they can utilize stem cells now alternatively of bone marrow graft. The new root cell graft is taken from the bone marrow. umbilical cord. or the blood watercourse of the giver. They merely acquire the root cell from either of those topographic points. and once more like the bone marrow graft. topographic point the root cell into the blood watercourse of the patient. The patient will be given chemo before the process as in the bone marrow graft. This clip the complication of the new root cells will make an immune system that attacks the organic structure of the giver. alternatively of the organic structure rejecting as in the bone marrow graft. If this does happen. they besides have drugs that will assist battle this. The intervention of blood transfusion is non normally used because it is a intervention for weariness. Fatigue is non a medical exigency. First. usage remainder to see if it alleviates the symptom. White blood cells merely last a twenty-four hours because that is how long they last in the organic structure. That is why the bone marrow is of import in doing the new cells the organic structure needs. The other complication that blood transfusions may do is shed blooding. For long term recovery. they normally need other intervention along with this process. Aplastic anaemia is a really rare disease and affects really few people. It is non contagious. It is more normally diagnosed in immature grownups and kids. It can impact any age group anytime in life and the unwellness might be brief. besides it can come on all of a sudden or easy. The symptoms vary depending on the blood cells that they are low in. The patient could hold a little instance that might merely be observed or to a terrible instance that needs intervention. A physician should be the one to do the diagnosings and interventions. Doctors estimate that there are about 900 new instances of aplastic anaemia diagnosed in the United States each twelvemonth ( Aplastic Anemia A ; MDS International Foundation. Inc. . Patients need to be excess careful non to acquire an infection because the organic structure holding low white blood cell count would hold a difficult clip battling against viruses. Stairss are besides taken to forestall bleeding: avoiding parenteral injections. proposing the usage of an electric razor. moisturizing O to forestall dry mucose membranes. and advancing regular intestine motion ( Venes 116 ) . Mortality for aplastic anaemias with terrible pancytopenia is 80 % to 90 % ( Lippincott 507 ) . In progressing engineering today. why non see to be a bone marrow giver that could salvage lives of others.

Marketing to the Bottom of the pyramid Case Study

Marketing to the Bottom of the pyramid - Case Study Example In accordance with the issues discussed in the paper thinking about the â€Å"bottom of the pyramid† can lead us to create an impossibly low-cost yet a high-quality new and robust business model. A sound marketing strategy directed towards the people at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) can help the company to provide cheaper products and enhanced access to technology thereby providing the necessitous people with an opportunity to become entrepreneurs and educate them. This can be viewed as a mutual benefit process, given that it will provide the company with a huge market as a source of revenue stream. Alongside giving the company a top-line revenue growth, cost saving and innovations will also influence the existing business models and management practices of the company. But one thing that the management needs to be well aware of is the fact that selling into BOP markets is difficult and the hardest part is to continue the work responsibly and consistently. Being a highly une xplored market, the strategy has to be formulated in such a way that it brings real benefit to the impacted communities as well as the company. However, in order to ensure that, the company should follow important guidelines and lessons from leaders in the industry known to have set examples of successful expansion in the BOP market. Prahalad had coined the term BOP, referring to a population which is largely ignored by the private sector in terms of providing services. As such, the author had identified the market as prospective and it had become the next segment of increased attractiveness for firms. The author highlighted the huge size of the market in terms of its population cover and its elevated purchasing power and thus, many companies identified a prospective opportunity to serve this market and become profitable. Different market segments require different approaches and so does the BOP market as it is a largely unexplored area. Consumers in this category are becoming deman ding and sophisticated. Thus, the management has to understand that although producing low cost product is a significant factor which is essential for marketing in this segment, it is not the only expectation that consumers have (Barki and Parente 11–23). Market development approach The primary task that the company needs to initiate is converting of the BOP consumers from unorganized and inefficient to just the opposite. This is a crucial strategy as it will help the company to elate the benefits for the market if the company is allowed to do business with them. The primary requirement is for the consumers and the company to be on the same pathway. Both the consumers and the company need to have a common belief in order to completely align their requirements and objectives. The approach should include a broader perspective ensuring a long term development and sustainability of the concerned parties. In order to convert the BOP consumers into organized and efficient, the mana gement has to ensure the development of a robust infrastructure as the inadequacy of the same leads to inefficiency. Besides that, in order to thrive in the lower income market, the company has to formulate strategies that enhance the buying power of the end consumers (Mardh and Correia â€Å"Marketing Mix Strategies towards the Bottom of the Pyramid: a study of the Brazilian market†). This will help the company to convert the purchasing power of the consumers into their profit. In return, they can eradicate poverty by bringing prosperity to the poor. Product innovation and consumer education have to be effectively carried out in order to foster aspiration in the minds of the consumers. Better

Marketing Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Marketing - Research Paper Example The customer oriented approach has won her many laurels and once the customer enters her store, they keep coming every 7-10 days to purchase more products. Her success lies in offering what customer needs. Growth is a way of life and Kudler too wants to expand suitably selecting right product mix and targeting potential customers. Currently, markets and the demographics of the region are rapidly changing due to movement of the people across the states and nations. Though Kudler offers a great promise as a discerning gourmet store in the California region; nevertheless, it becomes essential for the firm to conduct some essential market research before putting its scarce and valuable resources on the business expansion. Identifying and Defining Marketing Issues In order to expand, Kudler needs to identify places where it can open new gourmet stores. After a setback from Del Mar location, the company is quite conscious of finding the most lucrative locations in California. Del Mar was a small town with not enough population to support its store. Through the market intelligence, the company has already identified some of the promising locations such as San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Palm Springs but before starting its store at any of these locations, the company must ensure through a proper market research that its decision to expand will not backfire. Carlsbad is one such site that shows enormous potential and once store at Carlsbad gets steam, Del Mar store may be gradually phased out. Marketing Research for Finding Potential Locations The company is well aware of the fact that the most specialty gourmet stores are located in the eastern half of the US and they do a roaring business there. In the last few years or so a sizeable population has moved from Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey to the west coast due to job prospects in technology sector and these populations are well aware about the concept of gourmet stores. In view of the various al ternatives, the major issue is to find the most promising locations where residents of the area are aware about the concept and would always be eager to patronize such stores if they find one in their area. Before taking a final plunge, the company needs to conduct a survey in the towns of Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and San Francisco. The survey will involve asking a set of questions through a skillfully prepared questionnaire to the randomly selected but representative target customers to explore the real potential in the area. The questionnaire needs to be designed skillfully so that the real objective of the survey to find the most potential location is fulfilled. This is crucial because once the store is opened making huge investments on infrastructures there is no way out to go back. Marketing Research for Choosing Appropriate Product-Mix Moreover, the company has been thinking to open Asian Specialty Produce Department at San Francisco area to meet the needs of As ian population – especially the fresh herbs, and spices. The idea is to serve a special group of Asian customers who can not only afford the special product offerings but always eager to patronize the store quite often. That simply means that before opening a shop at this area, it would be advisable to do some market research that will decide about the core Asian community group such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean or Indian subcontinent region that the company wants to target at. These Asian groups differ in their taste and

Homophobia in Law Enforcement: Lethal Consequences :: Free Essays Online

Homophobia in Law Enforcement: Lethal Consequences The constitution guarantees life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to all Americans, yet there is a group who endures a life without total liberty, restrictions on their choice of lifestyle and happiness, and unfair treatment which may even result in the untimely loss of their lives. This group of people currently facing discrimination and mistreatment is the gay and lesbian community of Washington D.C., and the perpetrators are the very people whose jobs are to ensure their safety. The law enforcement is not entirely protecting gays and lesbians in D.C., nor are they ensuring that they have basic human rights. The effects of discrimination or even just insensitivity in the police department can have catastrophic negative effects on the victims, the gay and lesbian community, and the city of D.C. as a whole. When people of certain minorities are not treated equally by the law, something must be done to improve this dangerous situation. In Washington DC on July 9th, 2001, an openly gay man, Alexander Gray, fell victim to two separate hate crimes. The first happened when several men made derogatory remarks about Gray’s sexual orientation, and then attacked and beat him with a shovel and a tire iron (Wilchins). Gray, both mentally and physically wounded, was then escorted home because he refused to go to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The police drove him to his apartment, and friends say Gray was handcuffed in the backseat of the police car when he arrived (Fahrenthold â€Å"Gay Activists†). Alexander Gray was a victim of a brutal and traumatizing crime, yet the police treated him as if he were the criminal, by handcuffing him in the back of the car. The D.C. police officers responding to this hate crime were not able to treat the victim with gentleness and sensitivity he severely needed at such a time, but instead they treated him as a threat. Throughout its history, the Washington, D.C. police department has had troubles dealing with the gay and lesbian community. There has been much bigotry and discrimination in the way some officers handled matters concerning those who are homosexual. During the 1980’s many police officers held the stereotype that all people who were homosexual had AIDS, and some occasionally wore rubber gloves when they knew they would be dealing with gay individuals (Fahrenthold â€Å"Blue and Gay†).

Donuts starting business in Argentina Till Penitence International Business Bachelor's Thesis Supervisor: Joan Aloofer School of Business Bachelor's Degree Program in International Business Nickel Campus Introduction Dunking' Donuts is an American global coffee chain based in Massachusetts, U. S. It's also known for its doughnuts. Dunking' Donuts has positioned itself as a high quality but still affordable fast-food outlet with full-day dining opportunities. Dunking' Donuts was founded by William Rosenberg in 1948, but its name was first Open Kettle. After one year name was changed to Kettle Donuts and in 1950 many adapted Dunking' Donuts as its name. Nowadays Dunking' Donuts is one of the leading coffee chain brands with over 11,000 restaurants all over the world. Dunking' Donuts was long time known mainly in America but in recent decades it has been opening cafe ©s all around the world, operating now in 33 different countries – it serves daily over 3 million customers. Dunk ing' Donuts have a great variety of different products, for instance 52 different donuts and over dozen different beverages. Dunking' Donuts.Dunking' Donuts got new owners in 2006 and those new owners outlined an extremely ambitious growth strategy, for example, they're trying to triple the size of Dunking' Donuts in next ten years. (M and S, 2009; http:// news. Dunderheads. Com, 2014) Argentina is one of the largest South American countries with population over 40 million. Its population is still growing, but fairly slowly because of the steadily declining birth rate. Argentina's border countries are Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Argentina has been a big country of immigration during its history – it has been attracting especially people from Italy and Spain. Wry. Counterparts. Org n. D. ) During its history Argentina has faced a lot of economical issues – Argentina was once one of the wealthiest countries in the world, but it has been facing several e conomical downsides. Though the country has since been recovering pretty well, the pace of growth is disappointing – Argentina is now lagging behind most other emerging economies. (http://economic. Blobs. Anytime. Com/ 2009; http:// atmosphere. Com/, n. D. ) In this paper I'll be discussing about Dunking' Donuts' motivations for entering Argentina.I'll be using the PESTLE framework, which includes political, economical, social, technological, legal and environmental aspects f the business context. Political one in 1976. Elections in 1989 meant that first time in 60 years, there was a civil president in the country. Nowadays there isn't a threat of military coups, but the democracy hasn't reach a stabile phase. (The Economist, 2014) (The Global Economy. Com, 2012) Christina Fernando De Kerchief has been a president in Argentina for nearly seven years. She represents the Statistics Party, which is one of the largest political parties in Argentina.Although there are two major pa rties in the congress of Argentina, there are all in all over 31 different political blocs. That makes having consensus extremely difficult. (www. Subcategories. Org/, n. D. ) Because of the big economical crisis in the beginning of 21st century, there was a period of civil unrest and rioting in Argentina. Reason for the uprising was president Fernando De la RÃ'Ëœa who failed to save Argentina from third year of recession – middle class started to upraise against him and his politics. There was a major social unrest growing because of the growing unemployment rates. The crisis peaked on November 29, 2001 , when Argentines outdraw millions of dollars and pesos from their bank accounts. Argentina actually had five presidents in Just two weeks in 2001. Www. En. Wisped. Org, n. D. ) Corruption is a major problem in politics too. All from the president to lower power players have been included in corruption crises, which is the reason why Argentina is ranked at 10th in Corruption I ndex behind countries like Mexico and Greece. (http://polycrystalline. Org, 2012) Political situation in Argentina isn't stabile or even near it.Corruption is a major problem and as Argentina is lacking of political consensus, starting business might be something to think once again. ECONOMIC 100 years ago Argentina actually had the fifth- largest economy in the world. But after overall bad policies and governments Argentina is far away from the largest economies nowadays. During the last few decades Argentinean have been facing many economical swings, all the way from financial crisis and hyperinflation to recession and boom periods. Last major downside was in the 2001-2002, when everything from unemployment rates to criminal peaked. (Wry. Domesticate. Mom, Only way to survive even somehow from the crisis in 2001 was to default and devalue. It has been said that it might have been the most responsible thing ever in Argentina's history. It did limit Argentina's growth because defaul ting cut it from the Actually Argentina has been recovering pretty well the past 13 years from one of its history hardest economical crises. Its GAP growth has been pretty high – especially before the international financial crises. (Wry. Marketing. Com, 2012) Even though Argentina has been recovering fairly well, its future doesn't seem to be as bright as it could be.High unemployment and inflation rates are likely to complicate future growth. And this summer 2014, Argentina defaulted once again. The situation isn't that bad as 2002 as there are still ongoing discussions with banks about shoring up the situation. Http://Americanizes. Saturdays. Com, 2014) Political and economical situation are walking hand in hand as we speak about Argentina. Both are pretty instable, with their ups and downs. At the moment entering to Argentina's markets might not be the best choice. Situation might be better after a few years as the international financial crisis is, or at least hopefully is getting better.SOCIAL Argentina is one of the most urbanize South American countries with several metropolitan areas. Greater Buenos Aries metropolitan area is one of the largest urban areas in the world – there are over 13 million people. Argentina's arbitration percent is over 90% and it has been growing by 1% each year, so it's actually the most urbanize country in Southern America. (HTTPS://www. CIA. Gob, 2014) As the birth rate has been declining, Argentina's growth of population hasn't been so rapid in recent years. Also because of that same reason, amount of inhabitants under 15 years has been shrinking. But fortunately population in ages 15-24 is nowadays largest in Argentina's history. Thanks to that, the working-age population is at the moment very high and will also stay like that pretty long. The amount of working-age population makes it possible for Argentina to have some kind of economic boost in future. (HTTPS://www. CIA. Gob, 2014) Total population by age gr oup and sex, 2010 and 2050 (http://superintendence. Org, 2014) Argentina's education system is mandatory from age 5 to 17, which is one reason why the total adult literacy rate is 97,9%.Nominally university studies are tuition – free and open for everyone, but hidden costs of education are often high, which causes that students need to have a full- time Job while they're studying. (http:// en. Wisped. Org, n. D. ) Argentina actually has one of the highest university drop- out eats. This might cause problems someday, because Argentina will lose motivated and energetic people Just because they can't finish their degrees in universities. (http://en. Wisped. Org, n. D. ) Food culture is very big in Argentina. Thanks to the immigrants from Europe, European food is popular in Argentina – especially Spanish and Italian cuisine. Argentinean consumes the second biggest amounts of beef in the world as it's considered to be the national food in Argentina. Also drink a drink called mate, which is a caffeine- infused drink, is very popular in Argentina. All in all the cafe © culture is gig in Argentina, people are meeting at cafe ©s for a cup of mate or an espresso. Cafe ©s are the heart and soul of urban culture in Argentina – those are places where people meet each other to discuss, watch soccer and socialize. (http://www. Vermiculite. Mom, n. D) Argentina used to have a very large middle class, but because of the recent downsides in the economics, a big part of the former middle- class people is now heading into poverty. Poverty in Argentina varies mostly according to region and provinces. Situations in the northern Argentina have been the worst. Nowadays the poverty rate is about 20% in average. Unemployment rate in Argentina has been extremely high – something near 20% – when the economical situation was in it's worst in the beginning of 21st century. In those times especially low-class people and indigenous people were sufferin g of unemployment.Nowadays unemployment rate stands between 7 – 8%. (http://www. Tragicomedies. Com, 2014; http:// en. Merciless. Com, 2014) All in all from a social aspect entering Argentina wouldn't be that bad decision. As the cafe © culture is strong, a coffee chain brand like Dunking' Donuts would probably be successful in Argentina. Cheap prices and cafe © culture would make it possible. Of course it would be important for Dunking' Donuts to think carefully to which regions to enter as economic situation in Northern parts has been challenging. Technological Argentina has a long history and tradition of technology and science. Also the public support for research and development (R&D) has been intensifying in the last decades. Argentina got loan for $24 in 2013 to fund scholarships for master's degrees and doctoral studies, and another loan for $200 to increase investments in innovation, research and development to improve competitiveness. There is actually a science and technology complex in Buenos Aries. Http://www. Dab. Org, 2011) development and expand its knowledge in science and technological development. Argentina is considered to have a great knowledge in biotechnology and that's actually one of the fields that Argentina is having cooperation with U.S. (http:// Argentina. Assembles. Gob, n. D) In the recent years there has been growth in the IT sector in Argentina, mainly thanks to U. S based companies that has been exploring the talent available in other countries such as Argentina, India and Israel. U. S companies have been extremely interested in Argentina's large number of well-trained engineers and advantages in outsourcing to Argentina. Technological and science situation in Argentina is highly positive. It is also expected to have a boost in near future because of the increasing amount of investments.Dunking' Donuts shouldn't have a problem with technological aspect in Argentina – highly educated people, investments and sta te support are positive things. (Wry. Marketing. Com, 2011) LEGAL Argentinean public confidence in Judiciary is fairly low because of the high level of corruption. The population in Argentina is pretty skeptical about the power of the judicial system to control crime, and they're seeing the police to be a part of the rime problems in Argentina. (http://www. Vermiculite. Com, n. D. ) Foreign investors have equal rights as the domestic investors to own business in Argentina. But because of the high rate of corruption among the high players, foreign companies prefer to include funds for private rather than deal with Argentina's courts. According to the World Bank and International Finance Corporation Enterprise Survey (2010), senior managers in Argentina have faced some problems and difficulties with the requirements of government regulations. Recently these kinds of regulations have been related to import and foreign exchange restrictions. Wry. Liberated. Com, 2011) As Dunking' Donuts rely mostly on franchising, Argentina's legal framework related to franchising is good for Dunking' Donuts. The parties can together reach agreements without any governmental intervention. The law doesn't specifically regulate these agreements – they're called UN-nominated agreements†. Franchising is an exception in Argentina among notary publics; usually there are always specific formalities or registration requirements. (HTTPS://www. Waynesboro. Com, n. D. ) The main problem in Argentina's legal situation is related to corruption and problems that it's causing. Courts aren't so trusted and police is considered to be one of the reasons for high crime rates. As the corruption has been increasing lately, Dunking' Environmental Environmental issues in Argentina are typical for developing countries: poor water and air quality, deforestation, and soil degradation. However there are many authorities that are trying to make things better. Also the government is trying to influe nce environmental issues; Argentina made a pledge with Paraguay to save one of the most threatened forests. Two governments agreed to work towards zero net deforestation in the Atlantic Forest. For instance Argentina will implement new land- use plans that are hoped to protect 1. 1 million hectares of the forest. There is also an environmental education program included in Argentina's primary and secondary education. The main reason for the environmental education program is to teach people some environmental awareness from the early ages. (http://WFM. Panda. Org/) (Wry. Marketing. Com, 2011 ; Poor water is probably one of the biggest problems in Argentina; there are several areas in Argentina that are lacking of non-polluted drinking water. There's still 11% of the population lacking without piped water. Buenos Aries has spent all of its aquifers and is now relying on the river ROI De La Plat to supply water needs.Unfortunately that river is threatened by significant pollution. Rece ntly people in Argentina have been putting pressure on the government because of the poor condition of the country's water supply. (http://www. Disheartening. Com, 2011; (http:// www. Observational. Org/) Dunking' Donuts states in its corporate social responsibility: We are dedicated to serving the basic needs of our local communities – from providing food for the hungry and support for children's health and wellness, to ensuring our spinsterhood are safe and secure† and † We recognize that everything we do has an impact on the environment.
